Hi everyone, my first time posting and I wonder if someone can help? In March 2019 I had Mohs surgery on my nose tip for a basal cell carcinoma followed by a skin graft. I am unhappy with the results, I think in fairness the cancer was more extensive than thought so all that could be done with a local anaesthetic was, so I have been re referred back to a Plastic Surgery Consultant to see if there is more that could be done. He was extremely kind and spent time explaining, and asked me to go away and consider the options and come back with questions etc. One option is the forehead flap, which might be difficult for me re operations as I have a chronic lung condition so the preferred option is the “Riga flap, which involves moving skin from the side of the nose around to the tip”. I would like to research this further but whereas there is plenty of info about the forehead flap I can find nothing about the Riga, can it be known by another name? Any help would be very welcome so that I can be fully informed before my next appointment in two weeks. I think preparation is key!! Thank you.

  • Hi Elizabeth

I think your issue may be spelling. As far as I am aware it is Rieger flap. Don’t know anything more to help you unfortunately, but there looks to be info on the web using this spelling.

    Good luck with your operation

Dear Jules, my hero, of course I never thought of the spelling. Yes Rieger aka dorsal nasal flap, I just assumed a letter coming from my consultant's registrar would be spelt correctly. Thank you so much for enabling me to research correctly.  Elizabeth
