  • Hi  and welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to join us.

It must be incredibly frustrating for you having waited 4 months to be told there's another 4 month wait to have your basal cell carcinoma (BCC) removed.

As you'll be aware BCCs are usually very slow growing and rarely spread so, unfortunately, surgery for them tends to take get pushed down the queue. Even knowing this though I can understand why you want to get this over and done with.

An initial consultation with a dermatologist will cost in the region of £150 upwards and you should be able to get an appointment within a few days. It then very much depends on what type of surgery the consultant thinks would be best for you. If it's simple surgery then looking on google you'd probably be looking at another £500 but if you have to have a skin flap or graft this is going to add more and, if he thinks Mohs surgery would be best, you could be talking considerably more.

I'm going to tag  into my reply to you as I know they went privately recently and will hopefully be able to give you more information. However, I don't know if they paid or they had private insurance.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Hi Bellas.  My gp suspected a small bcc next to my eye. Last year. Around late October .i got an appt with nhs. For weeks into the future..: but decided to arrange a private consultation down in Glasgow at the private hospital there. Cost me £150.  I was then booked in for surgery to remove the bcc one week later...cost was approximately £1000 to £1100. I didn’t have insurance but went in as a self pay patient.   Would highly recommend this route if you can afford it.  Well worth it for peace of mind
