Im a 39 year old female and have a bcc on my scalp. I’m due for a consultation for MOHS surgery on the 13th January. I’m still shocked as had been turned away over the years by gps telling me it was not of concern.I feel MOHS is the right choice as did attend consultation with plastics but was advised by the consultant himself that he would opt for MOHS in my circumstance and that reconstructive surgery will be involved.  Would be good to hear from those who have experienced MOHS or scalp bcc and could offer any encouraging advice. Thanks

    Hi Mojobones

I have just had MOHs October last year and a forehead flap and reconstruction on my nose for infiltrating bcc, my surgery is obviously different to yours but can honestly say, MOHs is the best way as it saves as much skin as possible and it’s more accurate in clearing the Cancer, am not going to lie it’s been a challenging few months, I have a 5 inch scar running from top of my forehead to corner of my eye, and a whole tip of nose is new down the septum and a new nostril, I had separation done just 8 weeks ago and you can hardly tell and with makeup nobody can even notice I’ve had anything done,I can’t believe how good it is, if you private message me your email I can send you picture if you want.
It’s easy for people to say don't worry but you will, every body’s experience is different but I would have MOHs again in a heartbeat,

good luck, hope all goes well

    Hi Frankie 1

Thank you for taking the time to reply and share your personal story with me. Encouraging to hear what a success your surgery has been alongside your honesty. So true, it’s easy to say not to worry but hard not to do. It feels intrusive but as you reassuringly advise me, it is the most skin saving and reliable, so thank you. From a vanity point of view I have my worries as have been advised the hair may not grow back depending on the type of reconstructive surgery but in the grand scheme of things it’s a little price to pay. I’m so glad you feel confident and happy with your results and most importantly you are on the other side of it. Thank you for your reassurance as was in need this evening :)

No worries, I’ve had amazing support from a couple of people on here and it keeps you sane, every story is personal, it’s the waiting that’s the hardest and the unknown, but I promise the MOHs surgeons are amazing and the nurses are amazing and treat you so well,

    keep in touch xx

Hi, I'm new to the group. I also have skin cancers on my nose, did they do yours under local anesthesia?

    Hi Spec4

for the 2 cancers on my nose I had MOHs surgery under local anaesthetic, you have to be awake for that part because they remove the cancer carefully to save as much healthy tissue, it can take several attempts before it’s clear, then for me I had a forehead flap under General anaesthetic and then separation under general as both those ops take a few hours, am now 3 months from 1st op and am doing great , every case is different but I think MOHs is the best for the nose but it’s up to your surgeon.

    good luck

Thank you for your response. I have a small one on my nose and i have been dreading it because a friend of mine told me it was very painful.
