Hi. New to this and never taken part in a forum before. A friend suggested i have look.

Already found out a lot of useful info about recovering from yesterdays surgery. I've had a BCC removed from the tip of my nose with a skin graft taken from my collarbone area. I'm also 4 weeks post operative from a knee replacement.  Hadn't expected quite such a large dressing on my nose. And don't really know what to expect when I go back next Monday to have the stitches out. Dermatologist has been brilliant up till now, but don't feel I've been given enough info about the future.  Have been feeling very down today. Trying to focus on the fact that the cancer has been removed. I did such a good job of playing it down to all my family "to protect them" that no-one has really taken much notice now I've had it done. Tomorrow will be a better day. Thanks for listening.

    Hi Lifestooshort

many thanks for reply, hope you are feeling better day by day.  what did they do take some skin from your forehead??  so do you now have 2 lots of scarring ??    Do you think you had to have 4 lots to get a clearance because of the wait you had?  Sorry to ask questions I am dreading having this done I really am but there is no alternative.  how long will it take to heal and you get the bandage off.

hear from you as and when you feel up to it.

    take care in the meantime

    Hi Alice

Denise here, just read your post, was it meant for me or lifestooshort - I deduced it was directed at me as our dates are close.  Is yours on the tip of your nose as mine is?  Where are you having it done, and have you had to wait long?  is it a nodular BCC as mine is.  let me know how you get on and good luck contact me any time you wish.

    Best for now

    Hi  Denise,

The stitches were taken out yesterday. I am a textbook case apparently as the surgeon was very pleased with how its healing after one week. About 10 medical students were invited to look.

It doesn't look too bad at all. Skin is remarkable stuff. The place she took the skin from for the graft, between my eyes, is hardly going to scar at all and the bridge of the nose etc where she placed the new skin is a bit red but I'm sure it will fade in time.

I hope yours goes equally well.

    Cheers and good luck,

    Lifestooshort

Sorry - new to this Denise. Yes it was for you. Mine is on the side of my nose by the nostril and is a Infiltrative MCC. I have had one op which was not successful and have had to wait until now 3 months for the Moh's surgery and pray that this works.

Take Care - I am waiting to speak to someone who has had one removed by my surgeon so that I hope will allay my fears.

    Best Wishes

    Dear Alice,

Try not to worry. Mine was infiltrative too which is why the MOHS works well to reach the margins of the tumour. I had tumours on both sides of my nose but all that was visible was a small scab on the bridge of my nose. Like an iceberg there was a lot beneath the surface.

I had faith in my surgeon and her small team of 3. I have a friend who had a similar operation a year ago and it is unnoticeable now unless you look very closely.

I hope your appointments go well too.

    Best wishes

    Hi Alice

Ah bless you - as lifestooshort mentioned all will be well MOHS is the gold bar for these type of skin cancers, it is what I am having too on the 19th so fingers crossed for all of us.  Keep strong and breathe slowly and calmly I keep having to remind myself to do that too.  sorry for quick reply as dashing off to Devon to sort a few things in our house there and stare at the ocean and sailing boats hoping that will be calming too.

    be in touch soon

    best Denise

    Hello Alice,

I'm a bit late to this thread but I just wanted to say that the injection before Moh's is more very uncomfortable than very painful.  It may help you to squeeze a stress ball.  The great thing is that once it is done, the worst bit is over!

I had a BCC removed from the tip of my nose in February and the whole process was much less scarey than I had thought it would be.  It is a bit annoying having to walk around with a large dressing on the end of your nose but you can make jokes about it e.g. pretend to have been fighting!  Moh's is good because you can be sure the whole thing has gone without unnecessary scars on the face.

I am 63 and I was amazed at how quickly it healed - now there is just a faint white mark left.

Please try not to worry about the injection.

    Hi Moonflower

I was very reassured by your last post as I had a punch biopsy on my nose last week which looks really unsightly and was a bit worried about what it might look like if I need further surgery. Hopefully if I do need more work done it will heal like yours has done!

    Best wishes

Hi. I had a SCC removed from the outside of a nostril in April. I had a skin graft taken from in front of my ear. Both sites have healed up very well. My surgery was done by a plastic surgeon. There is a bit of a scar on my nose but not bad, and some people don't notice it. Good luck.
