Hi all, new to the group. After seeing a dermatologist for a spot on my nose that won’t go away, he said it needs to be removed as it is cancer. Completely floored, and then advised it could be done the following Wednesday. Still in shock, but felt I needed it gone. Well that was a couple of days ago and now have 5 stitches on my nose, spot gone and waiting for results. My nose is really sore and it has now hit me, feel very sorry for myself and a little panicky. Within the space of 2 weeks been diagnosed and treated. Worried how my nose will look once healed; worried if I should clean my wound or not; but at same time so glad I had it checked. Emotions all over the place

  • Hi CarolCC,

Gosh, that was quick! What a whirlwind. I'm not surprised you feel all over the place.

I think it's so natural to be worried about how your nose will look once healed. At the moment, it's a mess, but I'm sure it's reasonable enough to expect things to improve as healing takes place.

I too have recently had surgery (on my scalp) and worried about keeping my wound clean. The theatre nurse who followed things up wanted me to leave it alone for the first seven days (no showering or washing) and then to very gently let some water wash over it once a day. And the surgeon didn't want any sort of a dressing at all. Coming on for two weeks later, things seem to be going okay.

For pain relief, I used regular paracetamol (during the first week, taken whether I felt I needed it or not).

I hope that's helpful and send you warmest wishes.

  • Many thanks for taking the time to share. You have helped me enormously, felt quite emotional reading this. But, it has really helped me, you have allayed many of my fears. I had no dressing and just given an appointment to go back in 10 days, and keep the area dry. Feel I can relax a little bit more now. Thanks again and all the best to you.

  • Oh, you're more than welcome!
