I had small bump on my head that itched and when I scratched it became slightly bigger. Couldn't get to see a gp as was told nurse dealt with skin problems. She took scraping from it and took a photograph, sent it off to dermatology. Result that came back was a fungal infection and that's what I was treated for. Never healed totally and 2 ys in my family noticed it was worse. I couldn't see it because of where it is on my scalp. Back again to see same nurse and same procedure. 2 weeks later told Id been referred to 'plastics'in my local hospital. Consultant took one look at it and said it was a tumour. I had to stay to have biopsy done that day. Back to see consultant couple of weeks later who confirmed it was BCC. Im going to hospital for surgery in two weeks time go have it removed, obviously with a margin around it. Im going to have skin removed from my thigh to do a graft. Very nervous about it. Going to be left with a fair sized bald patch which is depressing. Has anyone else had similar and has suggestions hair wise to cover it. I have fairly short hair.
Hi Montyc4135f and a very warm welcome to our group.
My BCC wasn't on my scalp, so I don't have any experience to share, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
I've had a look through the group and there are quite a few people in the group who have had BCCs removed from their scalp, so hopefully one of them will be along soon. The most recent poster is Jambo 67 so I've tagged them into my reply to you and hopefully they'll be able to pop on and share their experience.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi, my mom who is 80 had same thing a month ago with a lump on head which she thought was a bite as she spends a lot of time in garden, she'd had it over a month and was getting bigger so took mom to doctors who referred her to dermatologist at hospital, straight away the doctor said it was 95% sure it was cancer SCC, saw plastic surgeon and now awaiting MRI scan to confirm if it's attached to her skull. I feel for you I really do and I hope all goes well, sending best wishes ....Jo
Thanks so much for taking time to reply. My consultant didnt send me for MRI just had biopsy straight away and it came back BCC. Im going to hospital to have it removed at beginning of Nov. Give my best wishes to your mum. X
Ur welcome and thank you, my mom didn't want a biopsy as Dr said she was 95% sure it was SCC and my mom being 80 years old didn't want to be messed about with twice so opted straight for operation after MRI results . Good luck for Nov , anytime you want to talk I'm always here x
Thanks so much, thats really kind of you. I think at time consultant actually thought it was worse than BCC so thats why I had biopsy straight after I saw him. I dont know where you live. Im in Glasgow and the plastics dept of hospital are great and have a nurse led team (suitably qualified obviously) who can do the biopsy in the actual unit rather than an operating theatre. Obviously it'll be doctor in actual operating theatre to remove it. Let me know how your mum gets on if thats OK.
We're in the west Midlands, Oh great it's good to have a good team behind you. Mom's had MRI scan appt for sunday morning which only 8 days from first diagnosis which is great news. I'm just hoping it's not attached to her skull but plastic surgeon thinks it could be so fingers crossed he's wrong lol . How are you ? Hope you are ok.
Jo
Everything crossed for her it isnt attached. Im not great, really worried. Received an email saying my op had been cancelled. I had go phone waiting list manager to find out why. I was told I had accidentally been put down for a nurse led op instead of doctor. Luckily its online a week later. I dont know if I mentioned before but my worry is I think I have it on an ear too and its started to really bother me. After op on scalp Ill need to see consultant about that ASAP. I have a long term chronic health condition which means Im housebound most of time and cant do very much so that makes everything a bit harder eg getting to hospital and treatment room appointments for dressings etc. How is your mum feeling?
Oh my goodness you poor thing, a week's delay isn't too bad but it's an extra week of worrying, stress and anxiety isn't it ️, Have you got a good support from family and friends? , moms anxious and worried as anyone would be in the situation, hopefully we'll get more answers in the next few days as I don't know how long results take from scan tomorrow but I'll ask in the morning
Hi. I am in recovery at the moment from the same on temple/scalp. It is a very long story. Basically had a Split Thickness Skin Graft,on April, the donor site being a large area of my thigh. The BCC goes from close to my right eye, across to the top of my right ear. It then carry's on up my scalp and then meets the beginning of my right eyebrow! My hair is collar length, and have parted it so it virtually covers the bald area. Hope that helps. Feel free to message me. I will try and get back to you ASAP, but will be away a lot in the next few weeks.
