Hi, my mom was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer on her head 2 days ago, they don't know if it's attached to her skull until MRI scan next week. I don't know wat to say or do cuz my mom is my life

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to our group.

I've had two different types of skin cancer to your mom's but I know how a cancer diagnosis can turn everyone's world upside down.

Please feel free to ask any questions here as there are people in the group who have had squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

SCC is the second most common type of skin cancer in the UK and most people who are diagnosed with this are completely cured. If you want to read more about it then this leaflet will tell you how it is usually diagnosed and treated and what your mom needs to do after treatment to try and avoid the risk of further skin cancers.

As you know, the online community is divided into different support groups so you might also like to join the family and friends group as you'll then connect with others, to share your feelings, who have a loved one living with cancer

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and any proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
