8 weeks after excision biopsy, now being called in

Hello, I’ve had a bit of a shock today and I know I shouldn’t worry, lots of reasons why the following is happening, but sure everyone knows not worrying is easier said than done!

A year ago I went to the GP about a mole on my back that had a dark spot on top of it that was starting to grow. Referred to teledermatolgy and told it was likely benign but, because it was growing, that I’d have an in-person 3 months later.

One year later(!) and after me mithering the consultant’s secretary with a number of phone calls, I had my in-person follow up with dermatologist. Two consultants checked me over and came to the conclusion it was more than likely a Seborrhoeic keratosis but, because of it being in centre of my back and therefore difficult for me to keep check on, it should be removed. Very reassuring, no indication at all it was anything to worry about.

8 weeks ago I had an excision biopsy and told to expect the results in 6 weeks. I haven’t been concerned at all and was leaving it an extra couple of weeks before chasing given I know results can sometimes take longer.

Today I’ve had a text confirming an in-person dermatologist appointment for next week. I’ve had no results yet, nothing on NHS App, no letters or anything so it’s out of the blue and caught me off-guard. Now I’m panicking about why they’ve called me in, if it was benign would it not just be a letter?

So I’m just seeing if anyone has experienced anything similar. Is it normal to be brought in for an appointment 8 weeks after excision?

  • Hi, i had a similar experience. Got a lump cut out from my groin and got a letter saying it was all removed  1 year later I got a letter asking me to come in to see a consultant,  that's when I got told my lump was cancer  they then removed  more of my tissue and now they say I'm all clear
