Diagnosed in April with a BCC on my face privately after previously being dismissed by my gp as nothing to worry about. Had for about 9 years in total but gradually grown in size.
Just looking at other people’s experiences of timelines from diagnosis to removal privately and experiences of removal.
A little nervous about the op and possible scarring.

  • Hi Bunny01  I have had two bcc's removed from my face 3 years ago, one by skin flap surgery near my nostril and the other by skin graft at the top of my nose right near my eye going towards my tear duct.  I had them done privately .  My time wait from going to gp who referred my to dermatologist privately who said immediately he couldnt deal with them and referred me to plastic surgeon was about 3 months for the first one, then I had biopsy on 2nd one which was dealt with after a wait of 6 weeks to let the first one settle down.  I was, like you, very scared and apprehensive and this site was my life line, talking to people in the same situation.  The actual operations, were done, under local anaesthetic and wasnt as bad as I anticipated.  Recovery was slow and I was very emotional as I looked a mess for a few weeks, but my Surgeon was fantastic and kept telling me things will be fine, and they were.  I can see the scars as I know where they are, but when I tell people they cant see them.  I am very very careful now with sun  cream, using factor 50 nearly every day as a make up routine. I was never a sun worshipper or a sun bed user, but I am 76 and they can be age related.  Good luck and feel free to ask me anything you are worried about and I will try and help you.  x

  • Hi Harlyn

Thank you so much that’s really helpful.
mine is quite high up on my cheek close to my eye. Was told it will be done under local anaesthetic and she said the plastic surgeon will make a good job of it.
im 52 and not a sun worshipper either, the BCC is also well covered by my hair. The dermatologist did a thorough check of my back aswell and commented that it hasn’t seen much sun.
I’ve been ok about it but it’s just the waiting to hear from the plastic surgeon and I have a feeling the referral from dermatologist hadn’t been made until I enquired why I hadn’t had any correspondence after several weeks. Today I was just at a real low and reached out to macmillan which really helped and glad they put me in the direction of this forum.
