Hello,

I sent photos to my doctor showing a reddish blemish on my nose. Doctor rang me days later and bluntly said it looks like BCC. Doctor was very dismissive about it all and said it wasn’t an urgent matter. I understand it’s a slow growing cancer but it’s a bit of a a shock. It has now  gone pink so having doubts on what it is. There is a tiny bump with it.

he said it’s up to a 3 month wait for a referral appointment to look at it.

i live in south east England does anyone recommend anywhere private? I have tried looking but can only see London which I can do but would rather stay in Kent .

i just need to know for sure.

    • Hi sara2025.   I live in South east and had a bcc removed... I had to wait about 5 months from gp referral to see the dermatologist...     this is after a previous dermatologist misdiagnosed it....  I looked into going private....   I live near canterbury  and I know there's consultant dermatologists you can see there...... as the bcc was on my nose I was referred to a head and neck consultant who removed it...   what part if kent are you from?
  • Thank you for replying . I live in Dartford and know Canterbury well. Do you know the name of the clinic. The blemish is fading to a pink colour so I am not certain anymore if it is BCC. The redness has gone now.

  • I have had my 2 bcc's dealt with privately at Nuffield Hospital,Derby.  I just went on their web page looked up dermatologists and picked who I thought looked good and made an appointment, You do need referral letter from gp.  Dermatologist saw me and immediately referred me to plastic surgeon as he felt it needed urgent, skilled surgery and it went from there.  The service and expertise I had was absolutely brilliant.  Mine looked like a small grain of rice and the top often came off and would look ok, then it would all start over again  Gp was unsure what it was but dermatologist knew immediately it was a bcc.  Good look, here to help further if I can x

  • Thank you replying. It seems everyone’s bcc are so different. Derby might be far but will look into it thank you

  • It was the chaucer hospital canterbury...  I didn't need to go in the end because my nhs appointment came through...  they also do MOHS at the canterbury hospital.. both private and nhs...   bcc can change in appearance so best to get it looked at in case it does need removing..   you'll find this group really helpful so please keep in touch....   we've all been there and are still going through treatment.... it was a lifeline for me

  • Incidently.  The nhs consultant I saw would have been the one I saw privately.. he was lovely. I also saw a head and neck consultant because it was on my nose and he was the one that removed it as his waiting list was shorter.. he was also lovely. I saw him in Ashford but he also comes to canterbury... both surgeons were very understanding and helpful

  • Thank you will look into this

  • Thank you for replying

  • Yes I knew Derby too far but you must have a private hospital, Nuffieod or Spire or private wing at your NHS one

  • You're welcome... let us know how you get on
