BCC on side of nose

Hi,

I have a 6mm BCC on the side of my nose, about 3/4 of the way up towards my eye. The plan is for a 4mm margin excision with a skin flap - from around the lesion and down my nose to my nostril.

Hoping to hear from people who have been through similar. Did you opt for Mohs, or excision? Any issues with distortion or eye pulling? How did your scars heal after surgery?

Thank you so much

  • I had a BCC removed from the side of my nose just over two years ago by excision not MOHS... the lesion was about 5mm and the surgeon took a 4mm margin... I was given  the choice of flap surgery or to let it heal by itself.... I chose the latter... it took about six weeks to close up and heal. . On reflection flap surgery would have left a much lesser scar although my scar is not too visible now.... I have a very slight pulled up right nostril but again barely noticeable....  the skin heals really well. It's understandably a worrying time and you'll find this forum very supportive so please ask us anything and let us know how you get on.....

    1. Hi OF49  I have had 2 bcc's removed from my face 2 years ago.  One with skin flap which was by my nostril and the other right at the top of my nose right up to my tear duct by skin graft surgery.  I had them removed by normal incision not Moh's.  Whilst I was very concerned h0w they looked at the beginning, the scars healed really well and hardly visible to anyone that doesn't know.  The only problem with ther one near my eye was I couldnt wear my glasses for a while and it interfered with the tear duct so my eye was running for a few weeks after, but that all settled fown.  I had them done under local anaesthetic and once the injections had been done, it was painless and not as bad an experience as I had first thought.  Puckettyboo who has replied to you had her operation around the same time, so we became skin cancer buddies and helped one another along ther way.  This site is brilliant, people are so kind and caring and will help anyway we can.  Keep in touch and ask any more questions. Good Luck x
