Treatment for BCC on scalp. Possible " Purse" treatment.

I  recently went for an excision of a BCC on my scalp. The skin specialist said it had been "mismeasured" and therefore she couldn't remove all of it because she wouldn't be able to close the skin. She partly removed it and referred me to a Plastic surgeon. I have seen the plastic surgeon today and he gave me 2 options either a skin graft or something where they "gather the skin into a purse"  which he said would flatten out in time. I now have to decide on which option to take. I have some concerns, one being that if the bcc was not measured correctly in the first place how does the plastic surgeon know that the remainder could not be removed with another straightforward excision especially now the first one has healed. He did not look at my scalp today. Although I did ask some questions I have thought of many more since returning home. Can anyone tell me if they have come against anything similar and also what the "purse option involves. All this has come as a shock and I am keen to get the best possible cosmetic result. I may have to ask for a private consultation but in the meantime would be grateful for any information

  • My plastic surgeon works in Nottingham/Derby area and is absolutely fantastic but perhaps a little far for you to travel.  I had skin flaps and skin grafts for 2 bcc's on my face and he has done a brilliant job.  Hope someone can help you nearer to where you live, but feel free to ask me any questions you have and i will try and help.  You will find this group are fantastic and people always willing to give you guidance throughout your journey x
