Hi
I had a polyp removed and was told that the centre of the polyp had skin cancer . I thought skin cancer was called meloma but the doctor says it was squamous cell carcinoma. He said the the outer skin and stalk was benign. But won’t say to me that I am cancer free until I have had a further test
are the both the same type of cancer ?
Hi Ker22
There are two main types of skin cancer, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a non-melanoma skin cancer and the second most common type of skin cancer in the UK. However, as I can see in other posts you've made elsewhere on the site that your SCC was discovered in a polyp removed from your bowel, I don't think that SCC found in the skin is the same as the SCC found in your polyp.
Have you been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS), sometimes known as a keyworker, as they should be able to answer your questions about what has been found.
Wishing you all the best

Hi
I havnt been assigned one..how do I go about this?
thank you
If you phone your consultant's secretary she should be able to tell you who your assigned CNS is and give you her contact details.
