A skin lesion of a keratinised patch black in color was noticed on my mother's calf in January,
didn't heal for 2 months, and I brought her to dermatology clinic. Biopsy done last Wednesday,
and received a report of sSCC.
Likely it is a in situ SCC, no perineurial and vascular or lymph tissue invasion ( limited to the part taken for biopsy).
the width of that lesion doesn't exceed 2 cm,
the only risk factor is that my mother is on immunosuppressive therapy due to Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Research and journal told that it is a slow growing and less likely to be metastasised,
But I have no idea how slow is slow. I have no idea till how long I should have it excised.
Would anyone share their experiences? Thanks, and hope all get well soon.
Hi SekiH and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I'm sorry that I can't help with your questions, as I've not had the type of skin cancer that your mother has been diagnosed with, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet.
I've done a search in the group for previous posts which mention squamous cell carcinoma and found these for you to have a look through. I've arranged them in date order with the newest first as there are over 100. You could reply to any of the more recent posts if you feel that the poster might be able to help you further.
Does your mother have an appointment arranged to discuss what treatment is necessary? If so the consultant should be able to answer your questions regarding "how slow is slow" and when the SCC should be removed.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
