Hi everyone. I had a melanoma in situ removed a few years ago and just had a scare about another lesion which thankfully turned out to be benign after excisional biopsy. I have just had my dermatologist do a further skin check at the biopsy results appointment, he also did one 6 weeks ago too when I first saw him about the lesion, and he said he couldn't see anything else concerning, but I can't stop panicking about every freckle and mole, and wondering if he looked at them all closely enough or whether I distracted him with the few I specifically wanted him to check. I do monitor myself every few months and can't see anything thats changed significantly.
Would a dermatologist definitely notice anything abnormal even if I didn't point it out?
When you do skin checks, are we looking for obvious changes? I find I can get very paranoid / obsessive about staring at close up photos and trying to spot the tiniest differences but I'm not sure this is really right.
Thanks for any help. I can't run to him every time I wonder about a freckle but I'm finding myself terrified of missing something.
Hi Ele76 welcome to the forum. My type of Cancer was different to yours so I can't answer with any certainty. However, it seems like you have been fully examined, checked out and I note that you also check yourself out regularly. It's difficult when we have had a scare to try to move forward with life and put some of our fears to the back of our minds even just for a little while and learn to live again. Can you have a chat with your GP and tell them how you are feeling as often people have some counselling after Cancer and I'm amongst them. It's worth thinking about otherwise Cancer wins and consumes your life. I hope you find a way to have some enjoyment and not be worrying. Best wishes Gail
