Hi everyone
im fairly new to the forum for skin cancer .
over the last few months I’ve been passed around to different specialists but finally spoke to the surgeon who will be performing my Operation on 28th August .
i took mr daughter and husband with me to my appt and I had written down a lot of questions for my daughter to ask the doctor ( some of the questions were taken from the MacMillan website )
I’ve been told that the SCC looks like it’s just on top of the skin , MRI and CT scans came back clear . He explained that the part of the SCC will be removed under general anaesthetic and a part surrounding it too . He explained that he may have
to make a skin flap to cover where the cancers been removed . He said it would be pretty straightforward and I should only be in hospital for a two night stay .
all these months of waiting and worrying and now I know what the treatment plan is I feel so much better . My SCC is pretty near my anal passage so I think I’m going to pretty sore trying to sit but I’m still relieved that it’s another part of this journey I can tick off soon .
good luck to each and everyone that’s going through this
. We”re all in this together xxx
Hi GG58 Hope your operation goes well. I have never heard of SCC in places like yours. I have had 2 BcC's removed from my face. How did you know anything was wrong. I had a skin flap on one of mine on my face and a skin graft on the other, I wonder whether a rubber ring would help you feel comfortable to sit. I know my niece had one when she had a terrible delivery after her baby. Good Luck and keep in touch and let us know how things go.
Hi there Harlyn
thanks so much for your reply . I thought it was just a rash at first so mentioned it to my GP. He just prescribed some cream without looking and asked me to come back in a month which I did . There was no change at all , so this time he had a look and prescribed different cream and some ointment and asked me to make another appt for a month later , one month later I went back and he said he was going to refer me to gynae at the hospital as it was no better . Went to gynae and had a biopsy which showed skin cancer . The gynae doctor then passed me onto Gastro intestinal. I then got a letter from colorectal clinic asking me to attend a clinic there . I was wondering why I had been referred there . The Dr at colorectal performed a recital exam , had a look at the cancer and confirmed I had skin cancer and not bowel cancer . Bowel cancer had never been mentioned prior to this , in a way I was "happy” to hear it was skin cancer and not bowel cancer . On the way home from hospital on Friday I got a call from my local hospital telling me I had been booked in for my op on 28/8 and pre assessment tomorrow . The surgeon had explained the process for the surgery , possible skin flap and that they would send away for a biopsy which would take apx 6 weeks for results . He said as my holiday is in October he thought I should off from cancelling to see how I’m feeling pre op .
I feel quite a bit of time has been wasted with my GP taking 3 months to send referral , being passed around to several different departments . A lot of worrying but as I mentioned I feel a lot better knowing the treatment plan . My surgeon said if anything bad comes back from the biopsy I may need some radiography but he seemed pretty confident he could remove it with surgery .
as we speak I am looking at Surgical Donut cushions on Amazon so I’m certain I’ll get something before I go to hospital .
il will keep you updated on my progress but I’m staying positive . Thanks again xx
Thanks so much Steve . I appreciate you replying . I’m looking at surgical donut cushions . Not the usual cushions I’m looking for but hey ho . I’m staying positive just wanting the operation done now . I finally know the treatment plan and the surgeon thought it would be pretty straightforward so I’m going with that . X
