Hi, I am a 57 year old, referred in March due to elevated PSA of 7.8
Had MRI, given a pi rads 5 and T3a staging
Had bone scan and CT scan to check for spread
Had biopsy (requested GA)
After MTD meeting was given
Gleason (3+4)7 NO MO T3a/T2
Recommended whole gland therapy
Offered prostate removal or radiation treatment
After researching all things prostate, found out about focal treatment
Asked for referral and was offered it on the NHS in Southampton
7 weeks on from treatment and have 1st PSA test in a few weeks, then every 3 months to see how things are?
Never expected any of this to happen, absolute shock to the system and its taken a while to accept this and find resolve
Things I've learnt on my journey so far...
1. A lot of new words!
2. There is no one size fits all, everyone's journey is an individual path
3. Stay away from any social media sites, they are not helpful in any way/shape or form
4. Do your own research, phone people/places dig deep into any resources you can find
5. Don't be afraid to ask/insist on the pathway you want
6. Look after yourself, be kind to yourself
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has been on the HIFU treatment pathway
Or anyone who wants to get in touch, very happy to share my experience
Also just joined a local prostate cancer group which meet once a month in our local Waitrose cafe (free coffee and cake!) Only been once so far but been really helpful hearing other mens stories
Take care

The meet up idea seems to be a great idea - I have found that it is good to talk, and as you say so many individual stories…
Stay positive, be strong
