Sorry to see you join us Gunner, but a very warm welcome. I’ve just read your details and your a fellow metastatic like me, and ex military like me. I’m assuming you were army with that nickname, I was Navy 1975-1991, best years of my life and only left because of domestic problems. 

With regards to your diagnosis, do not despair or overly worry. I too have been blown away by the support and performance of the NHS and thanks to them I’ve reduced my psa considerably, feel much better mentally and definitely up for the challenge ahead. My only advice would be to take the meds, adopt a great diet and exercise plan and you’ll be fine. We may be classed as incurables but nowadays this disease is very treatable and can definitely keep us around for many years to come, even a decade or more.

Welcome Gunner66  and I love your positive attitude.  You can read others profiles by clicking on their name or avatar (if they have filled it in).  You soon realise that this isn’t such a scary cancer and treatments have changed in the time I have been a member.  I say to my oncologist, just keep me going till you find a cure.

For me it's keep me going until I can't drink ale and laugh anymore.

With your positive attitude you can work on this and get along OK.

Don't forget that oft said phrase on the forum - it is a couples disease. I am sure your wife is going through as much turmoil as yourself, but there is plenty of support and resourcefulness amongst the members of this community.

I am just coming up to the first anniversary of my sky high PSA result and the beginning of the process which you have embarked upon.   The Triplet Therapy approach works (double HT plus chemo) - my PSA started at 953 and now is undetectable <0.025.   I expect to have radiotherapy in a couple of months time to further hit those nasty cells on the head.

Keep positive, keep exercising, good diet.
