  • Hello Nigel (

A warm welcome to the group, although I am so sorry to find you joining us. I love the user name, (I live in Oldham and a few of my mates keep pigeons).

So I still have 95 % of my prostate (The NHS keep taking bits) however I had an indwelling catheter for 10 months so I know what it's like to have one. (You can read my journey by clicking on my user name or avatar).

It's not as bad as you may think - it's just strange at first, just try and ignore it. The important points are:

    * When you use leg straps to strap the bag to your let make sure the straps are behind the pipes not over them.

    * At night when you add your night bag at the bottom of the day bag make sure the connection is tight and the tap open.

    * If you don't get given a night stand for the night bag - keep it in a bucket or container.

    * Keep everything clean - that includes where the pipe enters your penis. Every day roll back your foreskin (if you have one) and wash the pipework with cooled boiled water - there will be debris!

    * Lose shorts when you are indoors or baggy trousers/track suit bottoms are ideal when you are indoors and going out.

I am sure you will be fine. Keep us up to date with your progress and remember your pelvic floor exercises are very important (but not with a catheter fitted).

    Best wishes - Brian.

    I've kept pigeons since I was a nipper I'm now 67

I'm positive about the surgery I felt I just wanted it all gone hopefully with a positive outcome

The bucket made me smile I will read again and take it all on board

Everyone on here are all so brave I've been reading alot of posts

  • No reason to be particularly concerned about catheter care Nigel. You soon get in to the routine of making sure that the straps are comfortable and the best way of arranging the tube when sleeping. The main thing is to empty as necessary and to change the bag weekly or as directed. In some ways they can be of great help in getting a solid nights sleep if you have been needing to pay a call several times a nightl

  • Thank you

Yes a good night's sleep sounds nice 3 trips a night is my usual Rolling eyes
