Newly Diagnosed

Hello,

I've just turned 70 and recently diagnosed with the following profile:

  • PSA: Rising from 15.2 (Sept 2023) to 21.7 (May 2025)
  • Gleason Score: 3+4=7
  • CPG: 4 (it was the high PSA that pushed me into this bracket I believe)
  • Stage T3a

I am having to decide between surgery and HT and Radiotherapy - which is not an easy process.

After some research - I'm inclined towards HT and Radiotherapy and looking for any guidance/advice possible.

I live in Scotland.

  • Hello

Welcome to the group - although I am so sorry to find you here.

Surgery or HT/RT is the $64000 question and is vey personal to us all - it's a question of the pros and cons of each treatment and how it would affect you, any partner and your quality of life.

Many Community members here document their journey and you can read these by clicking on their user name or avatar. I would browse the Community reading various profiles (people who have had surgery and those who have had HT/RT), if you have any questions - however trivial - ask them, people are happy to answer.

I had 3 years HT/RT and you can read my profile - I have had other issues as well as being a T3a and Gleason 9 - but if you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them.

Good luck with your choice - but for me you are heading down the right road!!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi DC123,

Sorry to find you in this forum, but now that you are here I can confirm that it's a brilliant place to seek support & information & hopefully give you a bit of clarity at this confusing time.

I was diagnosed just over 2 years ago Gleason 7 (4 + 3) & PSA of 7.6 & chose to go down the HT / RT route - the wimp in me didn't fancy the other option of an operation.  If it helps at all, you can read my journey by clicking on my user name.

It's worth spending the time looking at various member profile journeys covering different treatment options as they will give you a better understanding of how things can go.  Make a list of the pro's & con's of each treatment option so that you can compare.  Looking at what's important to you & your partner (after all it does affect both of you in different ways) will help you decide which course of treatment suits your needs best.  What's important to one person may not impact someone else to the same extent.

    Best Wishes

    Brian

  • Hi DC123

I am also 70 years old and recently had prostate surgery.  I have documented my journey in my profile so if you want to get a view from someone who has opted for the surgical route feel free to have a look.

Best of luck with your decision, I know it is not an easy one to make, but as many others will attest you will feel a lot better once the decision is made and you have a plan to move ahead.

    All the best

    Dave
