Hi Inverurie and welcome. We are a friendly bunch who are here to answer any questions or if you just want a chat. My husband has been on hormone therapy for almost 5 years and has had 3 different lots of radiotherapy, all of which have put the cancer to bed in the areas targeted.

My PSA was 5, but I have family history  , but I knew something was wrong so I basically lied and it turns out my Gleeson score is 8

With a PSA of 5 I presume you are on a curative pathway with the lesion contained in the gland? If you want help understanding your stats just ask. The Gleason 8 could be 4+4, 3+5, 5+3, which can have different implications.

Well done for catching it so early. You were definitely “on guard”  because of your family history and it’s paid off.
Whether it’s a Gleason 3 or a Gleason 5 cancer cell, it’s a dead cancer cell once it’s had its DNA chain broken by the radiotherapy and it tries to duplicate.  AW

I don't know about early the Drs think I  have had it 10 years and my score in Feb was a 3 & 5 as its about to erupt out of my prostate. 

You may have had 3-3 for 10 years.  Unlikely to be the Gleason 5 component, because that doesn’t linger for long.  AW

Hi Inverurie - furthermore, if you have a 5 component about to erupt out of the gland, you may want to consider brachytherapy boost with full pelvic EBRT.  Click on my snowy scene for more info.  A question for your oncology consultant?  AW

They dont do brachytherapy in Aberdeen, and only send about 5 to Edinburgh a year. With only 2 or 3 getting it.
