Hi I am facing surgery for removal of prostate or Radiopaphy trying to link up with anyone who has been through it.
What is the likely timeline from meeting consultants to treatment (op)?
What is the recovery timeline experience /like?
Best incontinent products?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the community. I'd suggest that, in order to help provide a better overall picture, you also advise:
- age.
- any other prostate conditions, e.g. poor urine flow due to enlargement.
- general health / fitness.
These factors may influence the options available, and your choice of treatment. I understand that age 75 is the cut-off for prostate removal. Obesity is also a significant negative factor for surgery.
FYI, I am also Gleason 7, but 3+4 rather than your 4+3, so I am CPG 2 rather than your CPG3. If you click on the little picture to the left of each poster's name, you can see their profile which if updated (mine is) shows a summary of their journey so far, or other info which you may find helpful.
Re waiting time, in late 2024 I was quoted a lead time of approx 8 weeks for prostate removal. That was for NHS in South-West London.
Hi Peroni. I have similar results to you, and was offered active surveillance, but after lots of trying to get my head around it all decided on brachytherapy on its own which is in a few weeks. I just know I would not be good with active surveillance and didn’t fancy surgery due to the side affects.. Good luck with active surveillance and hopefully it won’t change…
You appear to be an excellent candidate for brachytherapy as a mono therapy. AW
mmmmhhhh I hope so, upto now it’s been quite straightforward.
Brachytherapy was not listed as an option for me. I'm not sure of the reason but I understand that this treatment is not available in all NHS areas. No problem for me as I'm happy with AS, at least for now. Best of luck for your upcoming treatment!
(Edit: BTW, it would be good if you could include your key stats in your profile)
