Hi. I was diagnosed with 4+3 and 3+3 prostate cancer in July 23. I started 4 weekly hormone injections immediately and opted for HDR Brachytherapy followed by Radiotherapy. I had my Brachy in February and get the last of my 23 radiotherapy sessions on Tuesday next week.
I was fully expecting side effects of the radiotherapy but just wondered what other people’s experiences were? I feel very tired and passing urine approx 20 times a day. Sometimes I have good flow but it stops and starts, other times I really struggle to get going and then it is just a trickle and takes a while. Bowel movemts usually entail a fairly large movement followed by numerous smaller ones over the next few hours. Not in any pain except for sometimes at my back passage when I poo. Hospital staff have been magnificent and really supportive, explaining that everyone’s side effects vary and been tweaking my medication to try and help but just wondered what other peoples experience was or is?
Also I am on sick leave at the moment and hope to get back to work a couple of weeks after my treatment ends. Is that realistic or will I need more time off to recover?
Thanks
Hi Granda Pig , you sound to be doing well. We are all different and in the way we react to treatments. I didn’t find RT too bad but chemo knocked me out. Others on here have the opposite experience. If you feel well, then maybe try and go back as being in a ‘normal’ environment will take your mind off things. Obviously you don’t say what work you do or whether you can maybe go back part time and see how it goes. Good luck with remaining sessions. David
Hi Grandad Pig.
Welcome to the prostate cancer family it's great to meet you today.
Following my Terminal prognosis last June my consultant put me straight onto Hormone Therapy (tablets and injections)
My initial PSA number was 1000+ and following the HT it has now gone down to 0.2 which is crazy.
The consultant was initially sceptical in regards of my treatment and success but with the numbers dropping drastically he seems to have mellowed & some!!!
Chemo seems to be my next step but he worries that I am not strong enough but I have never felt stronger???
I do hope that more members who have got many experiences like yours will be in contact soon but if there's anything that I can do in the time being please please come back to me!!!!
