PSA today after injection last week

Morning all,

Husband had the Zoladex injection last Thursday accompanied by the 28 days Bicalutamide tablets.

Should we expect any reduction in the PSA immediately or does it take few weeks to take effect?

Please let me know how your experience was. BTW he still does not have any side effects but we know it will come.

Many thanks

Lots of love from Brigthon ( windy...)

  • Morning Dafna from not so sunny Greece today.

You will be pleased to know that the PSA usually goes down dramatically soon after taking the tablets and having the implant. Your husband will probably have a blood test fairly soon to check that the hormone therapy is doing it's job. Just keep an eye on him for a few days to make sure he has no reaction to the Zoladex. You are doing great and hope you have gone back to the Spanish lessons.

    Take care.

  • Good Morning Dafna from a dark wet overcast and cold Oldham (nothing changes here!!Joy)

The Prostate Cancer thrives on Testosterone (it's food!). Once the supply of Testosterone is cut off the cancer can't feed grow and move about. The Zoladex will start the process right away - the Bicalutamide tablets are given at the start of treatment to stop "Hormone Flare" when there is a chance that the Testosterone supply could increase.

I am sure his next PSA test will show a dramatic drop in his numbers.

Keep him fit and keep him exercising and more importantly look after yourself too!

    Best wishes - Brian.
