I was thinking about using a Condom catheter kit.

Any one else tried this as a alternative to pads.

I'm going through those at a high rate.

  • Hi tec, I will assume you had a recent prostatectomy and are in the process of regaining continence.  A condom catheter may give you short term relief but may slow your progress overall. Your continence requires the training of your urinary sphincter and pelvic floor muscles. The condom catheter lets those muscles off the hook so to speak.

There is much good advice out there regarding how to speed up the achievement of continence.  But the condom catheter seems more useful for those who aren't making progress and just need relief from the wetness or for relief just in certain situations.

  • Yes it my first days post the removal of the catheter.

But well using the pads over night and the other time's I have to climb in out of the car are causing a lot of leaks.

Unfortunately when you have a parent with dementia you can't really take things easy.

Pelvic floor exercise are ongoing but well life can be a challenge

  • I know how you feel. Those first few days after the catheter removal were the worst. But for me, things were much better after 2 weeks. Keep up the pelvc floor exercises,  find the time to exercise,  walking is good. If you are leaking,  use a larger pad and change it as soon as needed. You will be more comfortable.

Don't become dehydrated thinking you will stay dryer. Drink normaly through the day, Then  cut back an hour or two before bed. You will make better progress this way.

Stay optimistic and patient.  Most recover steadily.  Some take longer than others. I wish you the best.

  • Did anyone have pain ( mainly under the 2 1/2 inch scar just about the Belly button when you did the exercises.

I still have a dark bruise on the right side that I definitely know is uncomfortable doing the exercises

  • Found some on Amazon lol.

    • So hopefully I will be able to use this system for a return to work
