Dad’s Diagnosis

Hi everyone,

I have been reading these posts over the last few weeks but now feel ready to post

My lovely Dad was diagnosed with Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer 3 weeks ago, it came as a massive shock. We had been told originally that he had Hip Bursitis and his mobility hasn’t been great. It was only when he fell and ended up in Hospital that everything seemed to snowball from there

His PSA Levels are 5000 and it has already into his pelvis/femur area. He has a Biopsy on Thursday and we will get the results next month. He has started hormone therapy

My Dad is 61, fit and healthy. Doesn’t drink or smoke and has trained all his life

I feel truly petrified of what is facing us

Looking for a little hope

  • Hi Magic23,

It is a high PSA and I understand how frightening it must be.  The wait to know what's happening is the worse thing. Now at this moment your dads PSA should be dropping and the cancer will hopefully start to shrink back because it needs testosterone to double and the hormone treatment will be blocking that. Meanwhile there will be a team of people looking at your dads biopsy and other scans and deciding what's next. Each day waiting for answers seems like a lifetime, so try to keep busy while you wait. Your dad is young and fit so that's a plus. There are people here with very high PSA's so hopefully someone will answer you tomorrow or you can talk to a trained macmillan nurse on 0808 808 0000 and they will know more about what’s happening.

Wishing you and your family the best.

  • Hi BarryW

Thank you for replying, it is all very frightening. I go from trying to stay positive to being petrified!

The waiting is definitely the hardest part, hope that you’re well!
