Hi all, what’s happened so far!

my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer November 2021 and it had spread to local and distant lymph nodes

started on hormone tablets then injections every 3 months for life

offered chemo and had chemo

offered radiotherapy and had radiotherapy

in February 2023 psa was 0.4 we were pleased

But only 3 months later psa has doubled to 0.8

I keep positive around my husbsnd

but I know he was worried at appointment just as I was

even though I know psa is quite low

I’m really worried that if it continues growing at that rate it can’t be good

i just wondered does anyone have any advice of what might happen

  • Annmh, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your husband.  I see your husband's PSA is now 0.8

I can understand you both being concerned.  Have you seen an Oncologist again?

I was told I was in remission in February 2022, and as long as my PSA stayed under 2.0 I wouldn't require any further treatment.  My PSA is up from 0.09 to 0.25

There are lots of good men and women in this forum who can probably offer you some good advice.

  • We saw oncologist Monday that’s when we realised his psa was 0.8

he just said they do expect his psa to rise but no time line just that it will . When he was first diagnosed it was 5.4 November 2021.
He said eventually cancer starts fighting

  • Hi Annmh

    My understanding is:

    * The PSA has to rise by either 2 full points or rise on 3 readings in 6 months before any further action would be taken.

    * It could be a PSA "bounce" - it depends on when the RT was completed.

I finished my RT in early February but I have been told wait a full 6 months for a reliable PSA test should be taken.

    I hope the above helps.

    Kind Regards - Brian.
