I am about to commence chemotherapy, has anyone used cryotherapy whilst having their cycles?  I understand this can help alleviate  neuropathy.  If so, can you recommend any particular product?

  • Hello  ,

Thanks for reaching out on the Online Community, I'm Eliza from the Community team. Here on the Community team we look after Macmillan’s Online Community and help all our members find the right support for them. I just wanted to get in touch to help you find out more about cryotherapy. I hope you've been finding it helpful to browse the Online Community, and that someone will come along to share their experience of cryotherapy soon.

You might find it helpful to also talk to our nurse specialists on the Support Line. They won’t have access to your medical records, but they can help with questions you have about treatments or medications. They may be able to give you some further guidance and answer any questions you have about cryotherapy. Our nurse specialists and support team are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat. You can also reach our nurse specialists and other teams on the Support Line here on the Online Community in our "Ask an Expert" section.

I've found some webpages which may have some helpful information:

Cryotherapy for early prostate cancer - Macmillan Cancer Support
    Cryotherapy - Prostate Cancer UK

I hope that this is helpful. If you feel you would like further help from the Community team, please contact the Community team over email to community@macmillan.org.uk. Please remember as well you can contact Macmillan's Support Line for further help and support.

    Best wishes,

    Eliza

  • Thank you Eliza - I tried the cooling gloves (couldn't get the socks on as were too tight) but they were a bit difficult with the cannula in my hand.  I managed to keep the left glove on for about 25 minutes.
