Hey everyone, just a small update. Had the prostatectomy, even ahead of the PET scan (next Monday) as there was a cancellation and the hospital called me at 8:45 last Thursday to see if I wanted to take the slot. It went well according to the surgeon and I am a week post operation. The discomfort with the catheter is constant but bearable. The vowel movement discomfort is an unexpected item, and I would advise anyone having the same procedure to talk to the health professionals about planning in use of laxatives. Your lower abdomen and rectal muscles are weak and using them pest op is difficult. Just putting that out there.Southend hospital were fabulous. Very impressed with the care and attention given.
Great news particularly about getting the op early. I found the catheter the worst part of all procedures. Mine was removed after a week and it was such a relief. I was given laxatives to take daily for about two weeks and I didn't have any problems with bowels. Maybe a good idea to speak to CSN or GP to get their advice / prescription. You have now accomplished the main part of this journey. You will soon be up on your feet and running around as normal. You may find you suffer with incontinence and / or ED when the catheter is removed. Try to not let it get you down if you do. It is a small price to pay for the great privilege of the PC having been found in time and being able to have the op. I am 7 months post and still suffereing with these but they are getting better, as most others seem to find.
Thank you Static. Great to read a response with such positivity. They have told me 12 days with catheter, so you did very well with a week. Am counting down the days, but agree that if there are side effects, the mental related relief of removing the seat of the cancer is so much a greater prize than the price of potential (and hopefully limited) ED and/or inconvenience.
Magic News that all's well and I wish you a speedy recovery. Just so you know you are not alone I had an indwelling catheter from 24 December 2021 to 5 November 2022 whilst waiting for a TURP operation. All I can say is 12 days!!!!! No I know it's not fun but after a while I found it very easy and it became almost part of me.
Best wishes for a full recovery - keep us posted.
Brian.

Hello all, 3.5 months since prostatectomy and it is generally going well, PSA under 0.01 and incontinence i much improved, if I suspect a couple of months away from maybe not needing pass. The ED dis feel a long way off resolution though, just wondering if anyone has experience on how to progress this? It feels as though it will not recover, as the thoughts and results are not linked at all. And knowing there was some nerve damage, wondering if it will ever recover. Any experienced thoughts welcome.
it does vary but you must keep doing the exercises and try to make sure you get the front muscles and not the back as I could not do this and was not good for me. a physio can show how to do the front muscle the sooner you can the better I did end up with an ams800 which was sliced bread to me, everyone is different
also, buy Tena for men they don't cause a rash as can happen with supplied. surgest Try level 3 if it's bad or 2. they also sell levels 1 and light. Amazon does well and is discrete. there is also a penal stop, one is URICLAK not cheap but effective.
