External Beam Radiotherapy v Brachytherapy

Hi,

As a newbie to this forum, having been recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, I would be grateful to hear from any members who have, like me, been researching the pros and cons of EBR v Brachytherapy (LDR seed or HDR).

My intermediate PC was diagnosed in the summer this year with a Gleason of 3+4=7 T2b N0 Mx following a PSA of 10.

I have started hormone treatment and waiting for my consultation with an Oncologist EBR doctor.

Most of the literature I was given by my hospital on diagnosis deals with EDR, with little mention of Brachytherapy; but having researched LDR and HDR on various websites, at this stage I'm erring towards the LDR permanent seed route.

Is there anyone out there who has been in a similar position of having to decide which treatment was best for them and has gone for LDR treatment. Any feedback would be welcomed.

Cheers,

SeaJay

My husband had HDR and radiotherapy to the nodes as his PSA was 69.5 on diagnosis. He is on hormone treatment.

He was T3b N0 M0. He was not offered the option of LDR. We did research beforehand and there was some evidence on the internet that HDR (brachy with boost) is as effective as surgery (not available to my husband). We travelled out of area to The Christie to have this treatment.

His PSA post treatment is non-detectable 6 months on, and we wait to see the trend going forward.

Best of luck with those choices.
