New but Fine

Hi All

New on here. Been reading many posts. Again it's a club I didn't want to join. I found out because I had urine retention, this was crushing my kidneys and the urine retention was caused by the enlarged prostrate!! Diagnosis between Christmas and New Year last year. Gleason Score 4+3 T3a NX with initial PSA of 182.

I am fine with the hormone treatment, and I have no issues with a catheter. I am not to bad with the hot flushes as I am on hormone treatment only.

I find talking about it with my wife and my mates in the pub really helps and it gives people an insight into Prostrate Cancer.

I am 66 and waiting for a TURP (I live just outside Manchester) and understand the waiting list to be 2 years!

Quite happy to chat to anyone with any issue, just wondering what the TURP is like - I have read about it but there's nothing like hearing it form "the horse's mouth".

Take care you guys out these and my best wishes.

  • Hi

I can't comment on a TURP but did they try you on Tamulosin?  If they didn't it might be worth checking why as it may help you during the wait.

    Trying to get fit again!
  • Good Morning Stuart

Thanks for the information. I've had a look at that and I am going to have a chat with the urologist next week to see if it can be prescribed.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi Millibob, I can't answer TURP, but like Stewart I recommend tamsulosin, I been on it from the start of my treatment and before cancer diagnosis, it helped me quite a bit.

  • Hi Millibob

I've recently started taking Tamsulosin and find them very good,I suggest you give them a go.Take Care

  • Wow, thanks Aberfan - that sounds like the way to go. I am good about my situation but it's a learning curve. Unless you search and ask it's quite hard to find  the best solutions. I will post at a later date my results with it.

Take care and best wishes - Brian.

    Best Wishes

  • Good Morning Aberfan

I will keep you posted once I have started them. I am 66 and only on hormone treatment - it's fine but the hot flushes are "interesting". For my age I am fit as a fiddle - apart from Prostrate Cancer. I understand Fatigue can be an issue but if you can deal with it that's magic. Take care and I hope it all works out for you.

    Kind Regards - Brian.
