So here I am to say hello
I was diagnosed a few months ago. I am 70. Didn't have the yearly blood tests due to the pandemic, although can't remember when I had one before that.
My PSA was 28.
I was surprised now many of my friends have had PC.
I looked into both surgery and radio therapy. My urologist and oncologist recommended RT. I have private insurance so was directed to a local (hertfordshire) private company that everyone said was excellent and raved about However, my employment insurance has a limit of £50k per claim. The treatment company quoted to the insurance £78k for 37 treatments of RT. My insurance could not cover that. So the treatment company agreed on whatever would fit in my limit allowing for other issues. Then the employer changed companies and the new limit per claim was £100k. So the treatment company reverted to the full amount. I advised the insurance company of the agreement and then was told that the treatment company said that I would previously have been billed for the shortfall! Can't really believe that.
I am now going to a specialist hospital in Hertfordshire as a private patient. They are charging £25k.
Can't believe the difference in cost with no difference in care.
Fishuel,
I can't believe that it's so expensive for the RT.
Is there nowhere near you on the NHS? The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle done mine last October. I can't thank them enough. I was a Gleason (3+4)7 intermediate risk with a PSA of 12.9
The fatigue was the worst, especially after 2 weeks, after the 4 weeks I was literally a shadow of my former self. My Prostate was squeezing my bladder and it ended up being just a trickle.
I'm not complaining though, if this was the price I must pay...so be it.
Now 8 months after the Radiation treatment ended I am in Biochemical Remission, much stronger than ever before (mentally). That was mainly due to counselling once a week from November to April.
Is there a big waiting list for NHS where you live?
