I've been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer.

I meet my oncologist for the first time tomorrow and I am obviously very apprehensive.

My whole body scan revealed it has spread to my bones and some lymph nodes but contained in the pelvic area.

New tablets have been suggested by my CNS, she said obviously all recommendations and any questions will be dealt with by the consultant.

I'm due my second prostap injection on Friday.

Any advice or support gratefully received.

  • Hi Ancient Mariner

I'm sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. You can obtain lots of useful information from this site and by asking the right questions.

You appear to be in exactly the same position as I was 4 years ago!

My diagnosis revealed that the cancer had spread from my prostate to my lymph nodes and also to my hip and pelvis.

Each treatment plan is different in that it takes into account such factors as ones age, health record and the nature of the cancer.

My advice to you at this stage is not to have any pre-conceived ideas but to have an open mind and listen to your Oncologist.

Make sure you have a note pad with you as I found that I suffered from information overload during my first and early meetings. If you can attend the meeting with a friend or partner, even better.

No doubt you will require advice in the future from those of us who had a similar diagnosis. For this purpose, it would be very helpful if you could post details of your diagnosis under you profile. Please feel free to look at mine.

    Good luck for tomorrow..

    Best wishes,

    Andy

  • Hi Spud & everyone,

Meeting with oncologist went as expected.

Putting me on Abiraterone & prednisolone so as not to clash with my blood pressure tabs.

A couple of surprises as told it was contained in pelvic area but has spread to ribs & spine.

He explained  everything very well, so there is hope for the future.

Go for second prostap injection on Friday & new blood test.

Just been thrown a curved ball as I write this his secretary has just phoned to say he is ringing me on Friday to discuss my treatment. Really concerned now,it's the not knowing what is coming next.

But I will stay positive. Thank you all for your support

    All the best Ancient mariner.

  • Hi AM, there is nothing worse than having to wait, especially when it's an out of the blue call, and you can only think the worst.

Your oncologist will be doing his best for you, and a possible alteration to your medication Will only be in your interest, stay strong and try not to dwell on the possible reasons for the call.

    All the best Ulls

  • Cheers Ulls,

Thank you for your message & support. You are right of course but it's hard at times. I will let you all know what I'm told on Friday AM
