My husband was diagnosed with prostate and bone cancer nearly 2 years ago, during lockdown.  We have been quite isolated during that time as we are both vulnerable.

3 weeks ago he had an op to consolidate his femur as he was in quite a lot of pain.  It went well as he was feeling better.  He had been quite depressed. Then last thursday

he had a fall. He has fractured his femur and cannot walk at all.  He is in hospital at the moment but I am really anxious about his coming home.  We live in a cottage not

adapted for a wheel chair and the bedrooms are upstairs.  I cannot sleep and feel very low. I feel I can't complain as his condition is so much worse. I am cracking up.

  • Hi

Sorry to read about how things are going, you could try two things, first contact McMillan nurses and tell them of your problem, they are excellent at dealing with these situations, second they will know people who can help with the trouble your having with his wheelchair.

The council also have help lines that deal with this, as regards his wheelchair. But I find McMillan the best people to talk to.

  • Hi Lucy,

I visited a Maggie’s centre last week and they are a fantastic source of information and support. They can also provide you as a carer with a place to go as well as supporting with things at home. I’m not sure wherer your nearest centre will be but they’re also online and on Facebook so you can contact them that way too.

  • Xx Thanku for replying and letting me know Ive done it right. Yes it's been awful my husband his only 58 had noooo symptoms atall and in July he was diagnosed with stage 4 metetastic prostate cancer, and had been so ill lately. It's all been so stressful. Then November he collapsed upstairs, gasping for breath terrified me. Rush to hospital and thank god they saved him. He had ''extensive Binary poulmary  embolisms, dvt in left leg, parcially collapsed right lung. It was hell. As that happened and he was very weak he was ment to start chemotherapy but could not have it which worried us more. No his recovered really well thank god due to the wonderful care of doctors and nurses. So yesterday he started Apalutamide  (Erleada?? I wondered if anyone on this pill has been OK or felt very poorly. His on zoladex injections and had hormone pills. Sorry just wondering how others feel on this treatment. Just feel so lost and scared and would be so greatful for some feed back. Thanku
