Prostate Cancer that has spread to the Rectum

I'm not in the same boat, but the hormone therapy should certainly reduce the problem, though the response may not be quick - we're talking weeks or a couple or three months before you get maximum benefit. How much it helps would depend very much on the details of your PCa, so I can't help there!

I know this post is 5 years old, I have only just found it. My husband was diagnosed with prostrate cancer that spread to the bowel,more specifically the rectum we are now aware.

He can't sit down from the rectal discomfort, not found a suitable cushion. The hormone treatment has failed to reduce the rectal tumour. 

The next step for us is my husband is fitted with a stoma in the hope, that following an MRI scan, they can attack the tumor with radiotherapy. Radiotherapy without the stoma is not an option as his initial treatment for prostate cancer was radiotherapy and brachy and any more radiotherapy would destroy the lining of the colon.

We are still awaiting an appointment following his MRI, hoping it is promising.

I guess we all suffer with the stress of waiting on results

Hi MrsWave, I was diagnosed with prostate and rectal cancer, along with bladder and bowel so just want to suggest a coccyx cushion, and regarding the radiotherapy coming up, ask about space oar, it may offer some protection.

Thank you for the advice. We are going to a shop that sells a few support cushions. I will ask to test the coccyx one.

Thank you for your reply. Prostate cancer in the bowel is rare and it has unpleasant consequences. My husband lives with a catheter and stoma now. Hopefully further treatment will make him more comfortable.
