Hi
I just wonder by how much infection can affect your psa

  • I’m not sure but it will depend on the type of infection. A urinary tract infection will raise PSA.

    see details here.  PSA test

  • Thank you Could uti raise it by 38 ? I’m probably just stabbing in the dark

  • Do u have any other test results?

How many PSa tests has he had and what r the figures?

Does he have any symptoms and has he been told by a GP/specialist that he has an infection

  • It’s his first ever test we thought he was just having a cholesterol test tbh I have read that certain things can higher it so was hoping it could be a uti and just wondered if anyone’s who had regular tests would roughly know if 38 that would be possible we go for a mri on Wednesday and it’s driving me insane..I’m embarrassed to say I know very little but no matter what the results I’ll make sure I educate as many people as I can but now with a little knowledge he does have some symptoms

  • An infection can certainly cause PSa to rise,  not easy to say if it could rise that much.

It's good that he's going for MRI because that will tell u a lot more, I know the waiting is terrible , just hang on a bit longer, hopefully it's not PC

    Good luck

    Steve

  • A PSA of 38 doesn't tell you much, anyway.

It would be best to repeat the test once the infection has been dealt with.

PSA is notoriously unreliable anyway: you can get false positives and false negatives. It is NEVER diagnostic on its own. I know it isn't easy, but you'll just need to wait for the MRI, which is much more reliable.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
