I finished radiotherapy 10 weeks ago and want to get back on the bike.  I read somewhere that’s it’s not wise to cycle as you sit on the affected area.  I have had UTI issues but would riding a bike exacerbate any issues post RT.  I know there are split saddles that can alleviate pressure caused by normal road bike saddles.

any experience appreciated

thanks

Jack

  • Hi Jack, I do a lot of cycling, and have changed all my saddles following diagnosis to split saddle (I use ISM). Previously I only used these for time trials, but now I have it on my normal road bike too, it works great for me.

I didn't cycle during RT, on request of my medical team, but got back on the bike a month after.

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks for that.  I’ve heard of those saddles.  My birthday on Friday so I’ll drop a few hints!

  • Happy birthday! This will be a very apt birthday gift.  The saddle does take some getting used to, I think it's very good. Have a look at the ISM site, they have a guide for choosing something that suits your riding style. I got my ISM saddles from eBay, that's usually more than half the price of new.

  • HI Jack

i had RT 2 years ago and was back on the bike 4 weeks after with no issues. i did the Tour de Mon 3 months after and was fine. i did try a few split saddles but found i just prefer Prologo saddles for my under carriage. I am metastatic now with quite a few tumors but still riding track, road and grave. keep going pal
