Hi, my husband had a three monthly review today. Blood tests all within normal range and PSA has risen from 2.6 to 4.2. Apparently this is all good as the PSA is riding a falling each review within the 2.6 to 6.4 range. Next review will be four months time. For all the relief about the prostate being contained by the hormone treatment my husband is still upset that he cannot walk, still needs a catheter and has really bad lymphoedema in his legs. The skin gets very sore and he needs a regular course of antibiotics to guard against infection.
it is unfair that he is coping with the cancer but not with the swelling in his legs….all of which has become seriously life threatening at times and only occurred after being diagnosed with cancer.
we are having mixed feelings about everything…life is so tough for us both. He is having to be hoisted into his wheelchair for only a few hours everyday to prevent fluid build up in his legs. Physiotherapist come twice a week to work on mobilisation but it is a long and very slow process. Carers come in twice a day to hoist him out of bed and back into bed. He has not like being in bed and gets very distressed when the carer arrive at anytime between 3-5pm to put him back into bed. He needs personal care which I do as needed and when the carers are not here.
All of this has been going on for nearly 16 months now and we are being worn down by it. The steaming hot weather doesn’t help either!
I long for the time when I write an up beat positive post on here.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
