Well 'Happy' (if that's the right word) Cancerversary to me

3 years ago today I was diagnosed

What are my thoughts after 3 years?

1) Don't rely on other people.  People who you thought were friends will lose contact with you.  Rely on yourself

2) It doesn't get any easier.  PSA is still below 0.03 but you feel like crap everyday.  Somedays are better than others but you never get a 'good' day.

3)Tiredness is your constant companion

4) A dog is a great companion.  Having a dog makes you exercise. Regardless to how you feel he still needs to be walked twice a day

5) You will never be the same person you were before chemo.

6) You will never be as fit as you were before chemo.  I miss the things I used to be able to do but those days are gone.

Sorry to be negative but that's how I feel

Here's to the next 3 years

  • Hello

Thank you for taking the time to update us.It's been a tough old 3 years - indeed I remember you joining us and asking where you got your user name from!! (I've still not seen The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy). I must make time to watch it!

Sadly I can agree with most of your points - and am pleased to say I have "dodged" chemotherapy so far, but you never know with this cancer.

I think you are fortunate to live in this area and be under The Christie for your treatment - they have looked after me once they got their hands on me.

When you feel fit enough (and it's stopped raining!) drop me a message and I will arrange to go for a dog walk with you - my message box is open.

Here's to the next 3+ years - I wish you all the best going forward

    Kind regards - Brian.
