I just been diagnosed with recurring prostate cancer, I have just realised insurance companies, are screwing cancer patients and survivors with disgraceful prices, I think I read a while back government cracking down on them for this day light robbery. Don’t see the point in tip toeing round them, a least dick Turpin wore a mask . I feel this is something that needs talked about, am not worried about insurance companies being offended, they don’t give us a second thought
Hello Shea14
I thank you for your post. I travel abroad frequently (I have a property in Turkey) and visit other Countries as well during the course of a year. I have Stage 3 Prostate Cancer, CKD, Type 2 diabetes, and am 70. My wife has her own health issues. Because our property in in the Asian part of Turkey we need joint worldwide cover.
Yes, after diagnosis but before radiotherapy I was paying almost £2K for an annual policy. Now I am paying £780 for a year for both of us. I think that's very acceptable, the policy details are good and the excesses are not that high.
When you consider in some countries a visit to a Doctor and some simple medication can cost £250/£300 and an overnight stay in hospital with say blood tests and a CT scan can set you back £2500/£2750. I think my policy fees are quite fair - and yes those are actual figures.
Sadly in this world you need to do your research - we all have different medical conditions and different circumstances.
I understand insurance to some places - The USA and Cruise Insurance is higher but there are associated reasons. On the Community we do have a group for Travel Insurance and here's the link:
Travel insurance forum for cancer patients
I feel your frustration and hope you get sorted, personally I am more than happy with the cover I have.
Best wishes - Brian.
