TURP Question

Hi

I had my TURP on 3rd April for Urinary problems. Results came back as expected with Gleason 9. This had already be confirmed and TURP planned before PC found.

What I want to ask is about the after affects. I have had no pain, very little bleeding and was back at my manual job a week later. However, I am still having urinary problems, rushing for a wee and leaking if I don't make it. If anything this is slightly worse since the op. My radiotherapy planning appointment is next week and I was hoping any little inconviniences (wearing pads and taking a pee bottle out with me) such as this would have sorted themselves out by now.

I am wondering if anyone else has found this after their TURP. and if so how long before it took to sort itself out and/or did it and will it get worse with the raiotherapy?

Cheers

  • Hello

I had an indwelling catheter for the 10 months before my TURP so once the catheter came out the day after the operation I had to learn to wee again and to gain control over when I needed to go.

I was told to practice my pelvic floor exercises

    Pelvic Floor Exercises.

I had no dribbling and no accidents although on the day I went home I was weeing ever half hour -- with the exercises this got better on a daily basis and within a month or so I was able to go three or four hours without visiting the toilet.

was back at my manual job a week later.

I was told 2 weeks rest and no heavy work or lifting for 6 weeks after the operation.

    I hope the above helps.

    Best wishes - Brian.
