My OH was put on Abiraterone last May after his PC was found to have ‘broken out’ despite having had brachytherapy 17 months earlier.
He's since had the most regular and debilitating hot flushes but the bigger issue is that his AF is much much worse. He was a serious athlete when younger (swan at county level from a teen, coached football for years & played until he was 60. He's 77.
We’re going through hoops getting tests & checks on his heart and after 9 months have just seen the ‘electro’ cardiologist. (For want of a better description). He’s baffled. Which isn’t great news so I’m looking to all sources for information as OH doesn't yet realise how much of this we can research ourselves.
This site helped me massively through my own cancer journeys so Im reaching out to see if anyone else has experienced the same or knows of a medical professional who ticks both the PC & Cardiology boxes.
Thank you , Caroline
As a long time sufferer of AFib alongside cancer I feel for you but I would say that there is a greater correlation between stress and AFib than Aberiterone and AFib in my view. While I was on Aberiterone tablets 18 months I noticed that my heart rate went done slightly and I had less events of AFib and palpitations. That’s me and my experience.
I don’t know how much stress your OH is under with the progression of cancer and if he is calm and heart “healthy” you may be right. But my experience was the opposite.
Good luck
