Hello Everyone,
I just learned today that some medications lower PSA levels.
I happen to take two - a statin and Metformin.
So where I was borderline, I am now in the danger zone..
Taking this into account, my future is grim.
I hope I can last a couple of years
Still constipated, lower back pain and erectile dysfunction....
Doctor gave me some medication to calm me down....
Sorry I just needed to cry on your collective shoulders
Have you tried laxatives for your constipation which may well be stress related. Lactalose from the chemist works wonders. I have had intermittent lower back pain for 40 odd years and a Bone Scan done last week came back completely clear. ED for me was reasonably fixed with Viagra or similar. I would say your future is'nt grim. Please remember 98% of prostate Cancer do not Die because of it. Chin up and Best of Luck..... Dave
Hello Dave,
I've been taking laxatives and the doctor prescribed more. No movement yet.
Hoping that they can keep me alive for a couple of years
Thank you for your words of encouragement
Have you tried Laxido. You can only get it by asking at the Chemists, and I found it to be far better than the likes of Senokot
I don't believe they have that in Spain .
I'm going to the ER...
In Spain it could be sold under the name of Duphalac. My husband was prescribed this in Greece but please remember that it can 2 or 3 days to work. A pharmacist might also be able to provide you with an anal suppository which acts a lot more quickly (can be as little as 20 minutes).
Please stay off Dr Google as it can be mis interpreted unless you know how to read the scientific articles which will drill the information down more. Metformin has been studied extensively as part of the phase 3 Stampede and Chaarted trial to evaluate its effect in relation to prostate cancer with limited results according to the Lancet in July 2025. These trials were evaluating the possible anticarcinogenic effect of Metformin on prostate cancer, however there did appear to be an unquantifiable effect on advanced prostate cancer. Yes, Metformin and statins have been shown to lower the PSA by 20 to 33% so it is important that you remind the experts that you are taking them but no you are not toast and your future is not grim even if you are found to have cancer.
You are overthinking at the moment which we all do at the beginning but usually the reality when you get to see an expert is not as bad as our imagination leads us to think. A positive attitude can help your body to fight illness so banish the negative thoughts and remember that 98% of men die with prostate cancer and not of it.
Thank You for your words
I am sitting in ER of hospital.
Haven't been to bathroom in several days.
I've tried everything....
I fear, I'll be in that 2%
Thank You again
Could I suggest look at your diet? I have gone plant based and the extra fibre intake I now get means I do the most incredible no2s with no pushing needed! I used to be on a drug for acid reflux but don’t need them anymore. Despite being fatigued on Orgavyx I feel amazing inside and loving the food I eat, it’s a whole new world. Worth a look perhaps
Well... everything came out well...
Feeling better when I left ...
They got rid of my constipation.
Two doctors checked my prostate, both said it felt normal, but very enlarged.
I mentioned PC.... He said he saw no evidence of PC in my bones from x-rays they took.
I know that x-rays don't give the details and depth of a MRI. So small comfort.
I just have to wait for Wednesday when I see the urologist...
Thank You for asking. I appreciate it.
Looking to change my diet too...
We'll see what happens...
Thank You
