Hello everyone

I joined the group last week and Ive had some lovely messages with support.

Im 6 weeks recovery from radical prostatectomy.

Physical recovery good, emotions been a big issue.

My main issue is will I every get an erection again.

I keep thinking about it, driving me crazy.

I know 6 weeks is short time but its the not knowing at present.

I have got follow up appointment with surgery in a few weeks and I know if told none of nerves were spared my world will come crashing down.

Had operation at Royal Stoke who were amszing but had no aftercare, no penile rehabilitation.

I have researched on the net and also seen some posts here on the subject.

I know if both or 1 nerve bundle saved there is hope of erection.

But if no nerve saved can you get an erection. I was told by Prostate Cancer UK you sometimes can but difficult and told me to fill in form on thier site to speak to a sexual nurse which Ive done and awaiting contact

It is not about male ego but I think in the long term could badly effect or end my marriage.

  • Hello

Sorry to read your post, especially the last line! I will try some pointers, but I am not the best person to answer your question as I still own about 96% of my prostate!

    * Here's a link to our information on ED: Erection-problems-sexual-well-being.

    * Here's a link to Prostate Surgery and after; Prostatectomy-for-prostate-cancer.

It all depends on how the operation went and if it was "nerve sparing" - why not contact the hospital, tell them of your anxiety and see if they can get the information you need. (PALS - Patient Advisory and Liaison Service at the hospital may be able to help here).

If you need some extra support please do call our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week).

    I hope the above helps.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Robbored4d7417, I can sympathise fully as I had my prostatectomy back in 2018 and unfortunately there was no nerve sparing for me and have been unable to get an erection ever since. Was prescrIbed cialis and the vacuum pump but all to no effect. I’m lucky that my wife was very sympathetic and understanding and although we’d previously had an active sex life she was more happy that I was still here and felt no sex was a sacrifice she was willing to take. Our situation obviously but I do hope you’ve come out of this luckier than I . I wish you continued success in your recovery Heart
