Hi folks. Today it was number forty three postop, so of I went to the local hospital for my PSA. Here's hoping for a good result as I need one.

I was doing really well with the continence issue but I seem to have gone back to day one after having the catheter out. I was down two  or three pads a day, but now I seems to be changing them every hour. Is it usual to have days like this after three or four days when everything was fantastic? Today I couldn't take more than 5 or 6 steps before I felt myself passing urine. Nor could I laugh cough bend, I'll go upstairs without the same problem. I keep having to remind myself.I'm only six weeks post op and there's still a lot of healing to be done But after a relatively a good period it's difficult to go backwards. Thanks for your continued support

  • Hi Al985,

I'm not able to answer your question as I went down the HT/RT treatment route, however this reply will bump your query back to the top of the list & hopefully someone who has had the op will be along shortly.

    Best Wishes

  • Hi  ,

I'm only 3 1/2 weeks post op (just over 2 weeks catheter free) , so haven’t had that much experience yet. But my days do vary. Couple of great days. Then a frustrating one where I spend a big part of the day mumbling “dammit, dammit, dammit” to myself as unexpected leaks happen. It does seem follow my general mood somewhat too. Had a couple of bad days, feeling very low and that translated directly into more leak issues. Today I was feeling really positive and just one change of pad at 2pm so far!

In addition my daily hydration affects things. Drinking less causes more leaks as my bladder doesn’t seem to get “full enough” to trigger proper wee function. Also, not sure if anyone else had this, not hydrating enough did cause some blood in my wee. Concentrating on hydrating again properly, and everything is clear again after a few days of varying red colouration (my urology nurse suggested hydrating more as I had no symptoms of anything more suspicious).

Hope it all settles for you and your recover carries on well!
