Post-op wound leakage and swelling in abdomen

Hubby had his robotic radical prostatectomy last friday.  His one surgical wound (not drain site) has been leaking a fair bit of straw coloured fluid - which i know is normal. But too much.  Went to urology yday and been prescribed antibiotics. The area around the wound has become more red and noticeably swollen on that side of his abdomen. My worry is. Will it need draining. Or can the antibiotics treat this!!  Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks (over anxious panicking wife!)

  • Understandable you are worried.

    keep an eye on the wound and see if it goes less red and watch

    When you worry about antibiotics working I used to say and still say when needed;

    I really trust the  medication/  Treatment is working.

    Thinking of you both

  • Hello

    Although I have not had surgery or medically trained my advice to you is ANYTHING that doesn't look or feel right contact your team, Macmillan Nurse, your GP or ring 111.

  • The antibiotics dried it up. So thankful it didnt involve needing to be drained.
