Dear all,

My partner has just begun day 2 of radiotherapy

I've been reading about potential supplements that could help and came across this study on Soy Isoflavones used alongside radiation therapy:

Soy isoflavones in conjunction with radiation therapy in patients with prostate cancer - PubMed (nih.gov)

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20924975/

immensely grateful if anyone could share thoughts on this please

also looking into this appears to be trustworthy brand that offers this supplement *rated num,ber 1

NOW Foods, Soy Isoflavones, 120 Veg Capsules (iherb.com)

https://uk.iherb.com/pr/now-foods-soy-isoflavones-120-veg-capsules/792

Has anyone had any experience with this or could advise if it's safe to take during radiation?

Your insights would mean a lot . Thank you from the depths of my heart for taking a moment to help.

Warmly,

PG

  • Hi P216,

Interesting articles. There has been more up to date review from Australia

    https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/oncology/articles/10.3389/fonc.2022.800562/full

The body of evidence does seem to indicate that soy products may be beneficial but I have no personal experience of it. As with any supplement you should check with the medical team before you take it as they can either increase or decrease the efficacy of the treatment. I personally would prefer to take soya in a more natural form from things like soya milk and edamame beans. Many people with PCa, particularly if accompanied with kidney problems, have reduced dairy intake and replaced milk with plant based products. I have also reduced the use of animal proteins and replaced them with beans, pulses etc. but was careful with the use of these when my husband was on radiotherapy.

Well done for getting so actively involved in this journey and keep digging.
