To save me scrolling through - husband on hormone injections & having hot flushes. Any suggestions to ease this.

  • Hi JFM, you could ask your specialist nurse for some tablets that can help relieve hot flushes. I was offered some after my Radiotherapy.  I'm on hormone tablets and injections at the moment. I can't think what they are called though. I decided to invest in a 12" cooling fan instead as I'm on so much medication for other medical reasons.

  • I took Sage Leaf and Evening Primrose Oil capsules, both of which I ordered online from Holland & Barrett. I alsoi had a backup of an homeopathic remedy of Sepia (Cuttlefish Ink) which I sometimes took if the effects of the hot flushes got too bad. I started with 2 off with 2x 1000mg EPO and 2x275mg SL capsules twice a day and gradually reduced that dose after about a year. You could also contact your GP for Cyproterone Acetate or Provera both of which are prescribed for hot flushes. Please be aware that Cyproterone can cause a rise in HbA1c blood sugar levels and is contraindicated for diabetes. I don't know if Provera has the same problem.

There are a few members on here who had acupuncture for hot flushes but I have no experience of that.

    I hope that helps.

  • Hello Jfm. I had them very bad and tried sage capsules and then was offered accupunture x 10 weekly sessions. It didn't work for me and was desperate to get some relief. Oncologist prescribed Cyproterone 50mgm once daily and the hot flushes subsided.

Hope your husband gets some relief.

    Best wishes, Graham.

  • Hi JFM

I know it works for me - but not everyone - Sage Tablets - they are amazing and have cut my flushes out totally - but I have been on them for over a year and it wasn't an instant fix.

    Hope he gets sorted.

    Kind Regards

    Brian.
