Psa40 Gleason score of 9 CT scan showed lymph nodes on the pelvic bone. Struggling with relationship break down trying to find safe place to live and being made redundant at the end of December. This is testing my strength to it's limits. Is there a point of contact to get help with accommodation?  Thank you in advance P

  • Good Morning,  Sorry to hear of all your problems - you've got a lot on your plate.  I don't know much about accessing help for you but I would contact your local Maggie's Centre they are usually located at larger hospitals - either go in or telephone them - be ready with information about your finances etc.  They will have a benefits advisor who will advise you on which benefits you may be able to get and how to access them - they may also help you complete the forms - well worth traveling to your Maggie's Centre to do this.  I would imagine they will also be able to help or at least point you in the right direction re access to housing etc.  The benefits advisor isn't necessarily there all the time so do call and make an appointment to see them first.  They may ask you to wear a mask when going in and walking around the centre as obviously some people visiting there are on chemo so are at higher risk of catching illnesses which could delay continuation of their treatment so they need to be very careful.   It may also help if you contact  your Macmillan nurse at your Hospital or Cancer Treatment Centre who may be able help too.  I also had help from Tenovus cancer charity - with filling in forms for various benefits when I was diagnosed - I had other problems as well and Prostate Cancer was the straw that broke the camel's back - thankfully no longer need these now but such good help from them.  They were actually based in a bus parked outside the cancer centre so popped in there when attending initial appointments.  You will also find contact details for other cancer charities online so try there also.  Failing all these things then contact the Citizens advice bureau.  Hope you get some help soon.

All the best and do let us know how you get on.

  • Thank you freefaller I will take your advice and make contact with them. Kind regards from Philip
