OH has just had his second fraction of HDR brachytherapy and is experiencing an aching anus. Has anyone else had this problem and how long did it last. He’s taking paracetamol and ibuprofen, Ciprofloxacin for two weeks and Tamsulosin for three months in addition to his 12 weekly decapeptyl
Hi GALACL
I'm sorry to read that your other half is experiencing pain after having his second HDR brachytherapy. Has your other half spoken to his CNS about the pain he's in as they should be able to help?
I don't have the experience you're looking for but noticed that your post hasn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily spotted.
While you're waiting for replies it would be great if you could pop something about your other half's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Sorry no experience with this - even though my brother had brachytherapy about 3 years ago - he lives in South Africa so procedures and care will be different from that given here. Definately get back to your specialist and ask about this as help should be given.
I do hope you have done this in the last week and your OH is now feeling better.
I had Radiotherapy external beam and I do remember plenty of issues regarding the bowel during treatment especially constipation.
But there were plenty of aches and pains in that area during treatment as well.
These problems should clear up after treatment is finished although may take some weeks to totally clear up
